Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, serving from 1901 to 1909. He was a Republican and a member of the Roosevelt family, which has produced several prominent American politicians.

Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858. He was a sickly child, but he overcame his health problems to become a vigorous and athletic man. He attended Harvard College and Columbia Law School. After graduating from law school, he worked as a lawyer and a politician.

Roosevelt entered politics in 1881, when he was elected to the New York State Assembly. He served in the Assembly for two terms, and then he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1889. He served in the House for four terms, and he was a vocal advocate for progressive reforms.

In 1898, Roosevelt resigned from the House to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Navy. In this role, he played a key role in the United States' victory in the Spanish-American War. After the war, he was appointed governor of New York.

As governor, Roosevelt continued to advocate for progressive reforms. He also led the fight to break up the Standard Oil Trust, one of the most powerful monopolies in the United States.

In 1901, President William McKinley was assassinated, and Roosevelt became president. He was the youngest president in American history at the time.

As president, Roosevelt continued to push for progressive reforms. He created the National Park Service, and he expanded the powers of the federal government to regulate interstate commerce. He also led the country to victory in the Spanish-American War.

Roosevelt was a popular president, and he was re-elected in 1904. He left office in 1909, and he was succeeded by William Howard Taft.

Roosevelt continued to be active in politics after leaving office. He founded the Progressive Party in 1912, and he ran for president on the Progressive ticket in 1912. He lost the election to Woodrow Wilson, but he remained a popular figure in American politics.

Roosevelt died in 1919. He is buried in the Roosevelt family cemetery in Hyde Park, New York.

Theodore Roosevelt was a complex and contradictory figure. He was a progressive reformer who also led the country to war. He was a strong advocate for conservation, but he also enjoyed hunting. He was a ruthless politician, but he was also a devoted family man.

Roosevelt was one of the most important presidents in American history. He transformed the United States into a modern industrial power, and he left a lasting legacy of progressive reforms.
