Setrag's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love to overcome even the most traumatic events. Bohjalian's writing is both lyrical and heartbreaking, as he paints a vivid portrait of his grandmother's life and the challenges she faced.

Bohjalian begins the book by describing his grandmother's early life in the Armenian city of Urfa. Setrag was born into a large and loving family, but her idyllic childhood was shattered by the outbreak of World War I. In 1915, the Ottoman government began a systematic campaign of genocide against the Armenian people. Setrag's father and brothers were killed, and her mother died of starvation. Setrag herself was forced to flee her home and wander the countryside, begging for food and shelter.

Eventually, Setrag was taken in by a Turkish family. The family treated her kindly, and she grew up to be a strong and independent woman. However, she never forgot her Armenian heritage, and she always longed to return to her homeland.

In 1961, Setrag finally had the opportunity to visit Armenia. She was overjoyed to be reunited with her Armenian relatives, and she spent the rest of her life working to promote understanding between Armenians and Turks.

My Grandmother is a powerful and moving story that sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in human history. Bohjalian's writing is both lyrical and heartbreaking, and he paints a vivid portrait of his grandmother's life and the challenges she faced.
