Icahn was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1936. He grew up in a poor family and attended public schools. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army for two years. After his military service, Icahn attended Princeton University, where he earned a degree in philosophy. After graduating from Princeton, Icahn worked as a stockbroker for a few years. In 1968, he founded his own investment firm, Icahn & Co.

Icahn's investment strategy is simple: he buys undervalued companies and then forces them to make changes that increase their value. He often does this by taking a large stake in a company and then waging a proxy fight to gain control of the board of directors. Once he has control of the board, Icahn can force the company to make changes that he believes will increase its value.

Icahn has been involved in some of the most famous proxy fights in history. In 1985, he took control of TWA and forced the company to sell off its profitable routes. In 1987, he took control of Texaco and forced the company to pay a $10 billion settlement to Pennzoil. In 1997, he took control of RJR Nabisco and forced the company to sell off its international operations.

Icahn's tactics have often been controversial. He has been accused of being a corporate raider who is only interested in making a quick profit. However, Icahn's defenders argue that he is a visionary investor who has helped to improve the performance of many companies.

Regardless of whether you agree with his tactics, there is no doubt that Carl Icahn is one of the most successful investors of all time. His biography is a fascinating story of a man who has made a fortune by betting against the odds.
